SmartTrack Recreational Toe Pilot Foot Control

Easy-to-adjust, great-value rudder pedals made from durable plastic. Available in two versions: “Standard” and “With Barrel Lock Adjuster”.

SmartTrack Recreational Toe Pilot is a fixed foot brace with toe steering. SmartTrack pedals are widely used, largely because it’s so quick to set your leg length. You can adjust them yourself while seated in the cockpit, and an instructor can just as easily adjust them from outside the kayak.

Compared with many other systems, SmartTrack pedals give a very solid rudder range of motion and work with both cable and rope steering setups. The pedal design also helps keep the rudder line self-adjusting.

SmartTrack Recreational pedals feature fine-adjustment screws at the front of the rail (closest to the bow). These let you centre the rudder by turning the screw on one side or the other. If you tighten both screws, the toe pedals move closer to the paddler—handy for dialling in the pedal position to suit your own preference.

The two versions

• “Standard” follows the description above.
• “With Barrel Lock Adjuster” is the same as Standard, but also includes an approx. 50 cm cable that ends in a fine-adjustment screw. From that adjuster, you can continue aft to your rudder using either rope or cable. The advantage is a more accessible fine adjustment in the cockpit, and a hard-wearing cable up front by the pedals—helping to avoid wear issues.

Mounting

There are two common ways to mount pedal rails in a kayak:

1. If your kayak has factory-installed mounting studs (laminated into the hull) with matching nuts, you can use those. If you’re building a kayak and laminating your own mounts, we recommend a mounting bolt from Kajaksport (article number KS501117,1).
2. If there are no built-in mounting studs, you can use through-bolts through the hull. Mount with 4 through-bolts (article number ST44-528), 4 nuts (article number ST44-531), and 4 seals (article number ST43-802).

If you want to bring the rail closer to the centreline, you can use spacer blocks (article number ST20-438) between the hull and the rails during installation.
