Kajaksport is the most common brand of kayak hatches and is used by most kayak manufacturers as original equipment. This model is made of genuine rubber and is designed to remain watertight even under very tough conditions. There are attachment points for a safety strap on both the inside and outside.
Which size should you choose?
Choosing the right size hatch cover is not always straightforward. The measurements provided do not represent the diameter of the hatch itself, as one might assume. Instead, they are meant to represent the size of the opening on the kayak.
To select the correct size hatch for your kayak, you need to measure the outer diameter of the rim where the hatch will be placed. Then, use our size chart below to find the right size. Be sure to measure carefully, as in some cases, the differences between sizes may be minimal.
Brief overview of the different sizes
- 10cm is common as a hatch for the mini box in front of the cockpit.
- 15cm is common as a day hatch.
- 19.5cm is common as the front hatch on British kayaks (P&H, Valley, Impex, or Necky).
- 20cm is common as both a day hatch and a front hatch.
- 24cm is common as a front hatch.
