SmartTrack THS Cable Lock Kit

Cable lock for 1–2 mm control cable.

This is a complete kit for attaching a rudder cable to a SmartTrack rudder head. The aluminium swage (cable lock) is crimped with pliers to secure the cable. If you want to remove the rudder for longer transport, you can do it neatly by releasing the retaining ring.

The THS can also be used if you run rudder lines instead of wire. In that case, you tie the line in place rather than crimping it with the cable lock. The advantage of routing the line through the THS instead of fastening it directly to the rudder is that the THS rotates, helping the line avoid chafe at the rudder attachment point.

• SmartTrack Clevis Pin for rudder head (part no. ST44-519)
• SmartTrack Retaining Ring for rudder head (part no. ST44-520)
• SmartTrack Hourglass Swage Cable Lock (part no. ST43-820)
• SmartTrack Shrink Tube (part no. ST43-811)

The THS cable lock kit is supplied as a pair.

Fitting instructions

Start by threading the cable through the shrink tube, then through the aluminium swage. Continue around the cable attachment point and through its eye.

Position the THS cable lock above the rudder line attachment point. Insert the clevis pin (ST44-519) and secure it with the retaining ring (ST44-520). Then thread the cable back through the swage.

Tension the cables to the desired setting, then crimp the swage firmly with pliers to lock the cable. Cut off the excess cable and slide the shrink tube over the cable end. Shrink it using a hairdryer, or carefully with a lighter.

Paddlespot tip: Take your time when setting cable tension—small adjustments make a big difference to how cleanly the rudder centres and how light it feels on the pedals.
