Description

A traditional paddle design from the Aleutian Islands, north-west of Alaska.

Unlike a Greenland paddle, an Aleutian paddle has asymmetrical blades. One face is almost flat, which makes it well suited to rolling and sculling. The other face has a raised ridge along the centreline, adding stiffness and strength so you can drive a more powerful stroke when you need it. Together, the two blade faces give you a paddle that feels both quiet in the water and reassuringly solid.

When it comes to length, an Aleutian paddle is typically sized around 10 cm longer than a Greenland paddle, and up to 15 cm longer than a European-style paddle.

This EastPolePaddles Aleutian paddle is laminated from seven strips of Western Red Cedar, which increases stiffness and durability. That extra strength matters most on longer wooden paddles.

The surface is finished with Chinese tung oil to protect the wood and give a comfortable, secure grip.
