Description
A two-piece Greenland paddle in Western Red Cedar, finished with black epoxy tips for extra durability at the blade ends.
Nanook is based on a traditional paddle from West Greenland. It has an oval shaft section and clearly defined shoulders where the loom transitions into the blades. The blade faces are slightly oval, which tends to feel quieter in the water than the more diamond-shaped East Greenland style. Those pronounced shoulders also make hand placement straightforward and consistent.
The split joint is a premium fitting from Finnish Kajaksport, making the paddle easy to transport and store without compromising the feel on the water.
Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) is a light, lively timber with a distinctive look. The shaft is reinforced with pine inserts to add stiffness, and the paddle is oil-finished to protect the wood while giving a comfortable, secure grip.
Paddling with a Greenland paddle is generally kind to muscles and joints. The long, narrow blades enter and release cleanly, glide quietly through the water, and are less prone to being caught by the wind.
