Description
A mid-sized aluminium rudder head.
The rudder pin uses a bayonet fitting that locks it securely in place. With the strength and rigidity of the housing, you keep as much steering authority as possible even when the wind and waves are pushing the stern sideways.
This rudder head can be paired with two different blade sizes. For sea kayaks, the SmartTrack Tandem blade (article number ST931) is the standard choice.
Supplied with the SmartTrack CRW cable lock (article number ST940) and the rudder uphaul kit (article number ST-K900).
Specifications
- The distance from the centre of the sleeve to the transom must be max 31.5 mm.
- The rudder head extends 94 mm below its mounting point.
Mounting instructions
Video showing how to mount a rudder blade on SmartTrack rudder heads. The film shows the “Original” head, but the procedure is the same for the “Compact”:
If your kayak sits low at the stern, you may prefer one of SmartTrack’s rudder heads called “Race” or “Ski”. If you want the rudder to sit deeper in the water, look at the “Flow” or “Original”, depending on how much extra depth you need.
How the bayonet fitting works
Here’s how to fit the included CRW cable lock to the rudder line/cable:
