Description

Performance is SmartTrack’s most refined foot control system, with fine-tuning screws at the rear of the rail (closest to the stern). It’s available in two versions: “Standard” and “With Barrel Lock Adjuster”.

SmartTrack foot controls combine a solid foot brace with toe steering. They’re popular for a simple reason: adjusting the leg length is quick and straightforward. You can do it yourself while seated in the kayak, or have an instructor adjust it from outside.

Compared with many other systems, SmartTrack pedals offer a generous rudder throw. The pedal design also helps keep the rudder line self-adjusting as you steer.

The SmartTrack Performance Toe Pilot Foot Control uses fine-tuning screws at the rear of the rail (closest to the stern). These screws let you centre the rudder by turning the left or right side. If you tighten both screws, the toe pedals move closer to the paddler, making it easier to fine-tune the pedal position to your own preference.

The two versions

  • “Standard” is supplied with SmartTrack rudder cable (part no. ST945). If you prefer, you can also use a rudder line instead of cable.
  • “With Barrel Lock Adjuster” includes an approx. 50 cm cable that ends in a barrel-lock adjuster. From the adjuster you can continue to your rudder using either line or cable. The advantage is easier access to fine adjustment from the cockpit. Note: SmartTrack rudder cable (part no. ST945) is not included with this version—only with the Standard version.

Installation

There are two common ways to mount pedal rails in a kayak:

  1. If your kayak has glassed-in mounting studs/bolts with matching nuts, you can use those. You’ll also need a SmartTrack height adjustment plate for pedals (part no. ST948). Mount the pedal to the height adjustment plate using the screw (part no. ST44-530), then mount the plate onto the fixed mounts in the kayak using the nuts supplied with the kayak. If you’re building a kayak and laminating your own mounts, a Kajaksport mounting bolt is recommended (part no. KS501117,1).
  2. If there are no glassed-in mounting studs/bolts, you can through-bolt through the hull. Use 4 through-bolts (part no. ST44-528), 4 nuts (part no. ST44-531), and 4 seals (part no. ST43-802).
