Description
The SmartTrack Race rudder head is a compact, very strong aluminium housing, widely used on kayaks with a low stern.
Its stiffness and stability help you keep as much steering effect as possible, even when wind and waves are pushing the stern sideways. You get a solid rudder throw and a smooth, easy lift-up. If the rudder touches a rock or similar, it flexes and springs back naturally. The rudder pin uses a bayonet fitting, so you can trust the blade stays properly seated.
The rudder head is supplied with the CRW cable lock kit (ST940) and the rudder lift-up kit ST-K900.
It can be paired with two different rudder blade sizes; the Tandem blade (ST931) is the standard choice for sea kayaks.
Specifications
- Maximum distance from the sleeve centre to the stern transom: 40 mm.
- The rudder head extends 58 mm below its mounting point.
Mounting instructions
This video shows how to fit a rudder blade to SmartTrack rudder heads. The “Original” head is shown, but the procedure is the same for the “Race”:
Paddlespot tip: If your kayak has a low stern, the SmartTrack rudder heads Ski or Ski-B are often a good fit. If you want the blade to sit deeper in the water, look at Compact, Flow or Original and choose based on how much depth you need.
