SmartTrack Transitional Toe Pilot Foot Control

Easy to adjust, good-value rudder pedals built around a robust aluminium rail. Available in two versions: “Standard” and “With Barrel Lock Adjuster”.

SmartTrack Toe Pilot pedals combine a fixed foot brace with toe control for the rudder. They’re popular for a simple reason: adjusting the pedal position to suit different leg lengths is quick and straightforward. You can do it yourself while seated in the cockpit, and it’s just as easy for an instructor to adjust from outside the kayak.

The design gives a strong range of rudder movement compared with many other systems, and it works with both cable and rope steering lines. The layout also helps keep the rudder line self-adjusting as you change pedal position.

The SmartTrack Transitional Toe Pilot rail includes fine-adjustment screws at the front of the rail (closest to the bow). Use these to centre the rudder by turning the screw on one side or the other. Tightening both screws moves the toe pedals closer to the paddler, letting you fine-tune the feel and position to your preference.

The two versions

• Standard – as described above.
• With Barrel Lock Adjuster – the same as the standard version, but supplied with an approx. 50 cm cable that ends in a barrel adjuster. From the barrel adjuster you can continue to the rudder using either rope or cable. This gives you an easier-to-reach fine adjustment in the cockpit, and a hard-wearing cable section at the pedals to reduce wear where it matters most.

Installation

There are two common ways to mount pedal rails in a kayak:

1. If your kayak has factory glassed-in mounting studs with matching nuts, you can use these. If you’re building a kayak and laminating your own mounts, a Kajaksport mounting bolt is recommended (part no. KS501117,1).
2. If there are no glassed-in mounting studs, you can use through-bolts through the hull. Install with 4 through-bolts (part no. ST44-528), 4 nuts (part no. ST44-531) and 4 seals (part no. ST43-802).

If you want the pedal rail closer to the centreline, you can use spacer blocks (part no. ST20-438) between the hull and the rails during installation. 4 spacer blocks are included at no extra cost.
