Kajaksport is the most common brand of kayak hatches and is used by most kayak manufacturers as original equipment due to its high quality. This model is made from two different materials, which makes the hatch rigid without making it difficult to get over the edge of the coaming. The advantage of these hatches is that they weigh less than traditional rubber hatches. They have been well-tested over many years and have a long lifespan. There are attachment points for a safety strap on both the inside and outside.
Please note that this type of hatch is primarily recommended for fiberglass kayaks.
Which size should you choose?
Choosing the right size hatch is not always straightforward. The measurements provided are not the dimensions of the hatch itself, as one might assume. They are intended to represent the size of the opening on the kayak.
To choose the right size hatch, you need to measure the outer dimensions of the kayak's coaming. Measure the outer dimension at the longest and widest points. Then use the table below to find the correct size. Be sure to measure carefully, as in some cases there may not be much difference between different sizes.
If you have a kayak from P&H, Valley, Impex, or Necky, you should instead look at this hatch in the size 41/22cm.
