Kajaksport is one of the most widely used hatch-cover brands in sea kayaking, fitted as original equipment by many kayak builders because the quality is dependable. This cover is made from two different materials, giving it a firm, supportive feel without making it awkward to pull over the rim. Compared to traditional rubber hatch covers, the big advantage is lower weight. There are attachment points for safety lines on both the inside and outside.
Please note: this type of hatch cover is mainly recommended for fibreglass kayaks. If you paddle a kayak from P&H, Valley, Impex or Necky, it’s common to need a different hatch cover instead — often the 19.5 cm size.
Which size should you choose?
Choosing the right hatch size isn’t always straightforward. The measurement shown for the cover is not the cover’s outer diameter (even though that’s what many people expect). It’s intended to represent the size of the opening on the kayak.
To get the right fit, measure the outer diameter of the hatch rim (coaming) where the cover will sit. Then use the size chart below to match your measurement. Measure carefully — the difference between sizes can be small.
Please note that this product is not available in 10 cm or 19.5 cm. Those sizes are only available in the variant called “Kajaksport Rubber Hatch Cover, Round”.
